2013 Scholarship Winner, Andrew B.

I would like to thank the Missouri Academy of Pediatric Dentistry for its support of my first dental mission trip. In January 2013, I had the chance to go to Uganda in order to serve the dental needs of children. As a team we were able to treat almost 500 children diagnosed with HIV. The group I went with is partnered with Mildmay, an HIV clinic in Uganda, for facilities and housing. The children are bused in from various orphanages and villages during the two-week period the dentist come each year. It was touching to experience the happiness and appreciation of the children who came to the clinic each day.
