2016 mission scholarship winner, Clare H.

My experiences on dental mission trips have truly been life changing. When I was younger, I had no interest in the health field and was actually scared of my dentist. After volunteering on my first medical/dental brigade at 13-years-old, I began to realize the incredible benefit of dental care to those in need. I admired the dentists who were improving people's live tremendously by volunteering their time and talents on those brigades and relieving the pain that, unfortunately, plagues so many. These trips, along with all the generous volunteers I worked with, taught me that one of the top priorities in life is giving back to those in need through volunteerism. Once I realized my interest in the healthcare field, dentistry was an obvious choice for me. The field of dentistry presents endless, incredible opportunities for volunteer work, both locally and abroad. I feel beyond blessed to have had the opportunity to volunteer alongside genuinely charitable people on medical/dental mission trips that helped shape who I am as a person, as well as my future career. - Claire H.
